Peppered Butterflyfish is very difficult to keep in the aquarium and is not recommended for beginners. It feeds mainly on coral polyps and coral polyps are very difficult to provide in an average marine aquarium environment. |

Saddled Butterflyfish which is also known as Blue Mask Butterflyfish is one of the more colorful, elegant and popular butterflyfish. It is the easiest butterflyfish to keep. It is non aggressive with other members in the tank. It survives in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, Sri Lanka, Hawaii and Christmas Islands. Saddled Butterflyfish feeds on filamentous algae, small invertebrates, hard coral polyps, sponges, tunicates and fish eggs.

Red-tailed Butterflyfish or Pakistani Butterflyfish is a strikingly beautiful butterflyfish. This Chaetodontidae is readily available but it is very difficult to keep in the aquarium. It is found in Indonesia, Philippines, the Indian Ocean, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the Maldives. It is difficult to feed as it eats coral polyps which are not easily available. It grows up to 16 cm. |

Threadfin Butterflyfish is one of the most gorgeous butterflyfishes which is found in the regions between New Guinea and Australia. It belongs to family “Chaetodontidae.” It is easily available and is fairly very difficult to keep. It feeds on nemertine worms, Coral polyps, algae, polychaetes, algae, shrimp and gastorpids, and nemertine worms. In the aquarium, it is fed with live brine, the very popular formula for angelfish and spirulina. Threadfin grows up to 23 cm.

Black and White Heniochus or Bannerfish is an excellent choice for a butterflyfish. It is often called the “poor mans’ Moorish Idol” because it accepts all kinds of food and has a much higher survival rate than the Moorish Idol. Bannerfish is found in Africa, Japan and Lord Howe Islands. It feeds on live brine, worms, a marine formula and a spirulina formula. |
